Making it easier to capture high-quality 3D point clouds.

At Zivid we are committed to continued advancements of the Zivid One+ 3D camera family through regular software updates.

For the release of version 1.5 of the Zivid SDK and Zivid Studio, our primary focus is to make it easier to capture high-quality 3D point clouds.

Capture Assistant

The Capture Assistant makes it possible to capture a point cloud without manually adjusting exposure settings. Think of it as the automatic mode of a DSLR.

In Zivid Studio, you use "Assisted Mode" to quickly capture a scene. You can use Shift + M to access this mode.

Based on the Capture Assistant's output, you can use these settings as is, or fine-tune parameters in "Manual Mode" for the next point cloud capture.

When developing applications with the Zivid SDK, the Capture Assistant can be used to perform, for instance, a single, initial scene assessment. You can also use it to implement a runtime verification at timed intervals.

We believe the Capture Assistant is a significant step forward in ease-of-use; at the same time, we expect to make some changes and improvements for the next release. In this release, we decided to keep the Capture Assistant experimental.

Histogram

The histogram is the easiest way to assess the exposure settings. It's an invaluable tool when performing manual captures.

After each 3D capture, you use the histogram to fine-tune your exposure settings to get the most out of your Zivid 3D camera.

You can access the histogram using shortcut H, and change view using Shift + H.

Improved Contrast Filter

We improved the Contrast Filter's ability to address noise from ambient light.

Use the threshold to precisely dial in the best settings for your target scene.

Additional improvements

In addition to the new Capture Assistant and Histogram, we included some other enhancements.

All Zivid SDK Core functionality, including firmware updates, is now supported in Docker. We have tested it on Docker CE version 18.09.

Both MATLAB and LabVIEW also got some love, with improved support in .NET.

In Zivid Studio, we've introduced a configurable depth map. You can now adjust the range manually, or use the default, automatic view.

Lastly, we listened to customer requests regarding export options in Zivid Studio. In addition to the existing .zdf, .ply, .xyz, .pcd point cloud export, you can now also save the 2D color images of your point cloud.
